Our 2014 event will be held close to International Women’s Day and to the 90th anniversary of the date when women were first able to able to stand as candidates for the Parliament of Victoria.
We have organized this event so that students from the Middle Years – years 8 & 9 – will have the opportunity to meet our panel of eminent women who have held public office and hear guest speakers Ms Safa Al Mahoun, Youth Commissioner, Victorian Multicultural Commission and Ms Billy Crombie, Community Education Team, Victorian Electoral Commission. Students are invited to make brief 3 minute presentations on the theme of the day in the Legislative Council Chamber, to our invited audience of students, community members and our panel of former Members of Parliament.
We hope some of your students will be able to attend on March 20. This event is being run by a group of younger women who are recent graduates from the University of Melbourne. Student from the participating schools and their teachers are encouraged to send some information about contributions to the event via its wordpress blog https://youngncwvic.wordpress.com/or post images of their posters to the event tumblr site.
Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more information about this event, or if you would like one of the project team to visit your students to talk about the contribution they can make to this event.
