55th Annual Women’s Australia Day Ceremony

On Thursday 21 January, the National Council of Women of Victoria held their 55th Annual Women’s Australia Day Ceremony at the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden, for honouring women pioneers.

The speaker Dr Liz Rushen, from the National Centre for Australian Studies at Monash University, spoke on Frances Perry ’s legacy at the Royal Women’s Hospital. The marvellous contributions that this great lady made at that time should not be forgotten, and it was remembered on 21 January.

Janice Latham, Vice President, NCW Victoria (NCW Geelong Branch), Marion Lau, JP OAM, Secretary OAA, Australia Day Ambassador, Jennifer Fleming, CEO Girl Guides Victoria, Cr Jackie Watts and Shelia Byard, President NCW Victoria also paid their respects to the Elders both past and present.

“Over this time, the lives of women have changed dramatically. But some things never change – and one of those is the admiration we feel for the pioneering women who contributed so much to early Victoria”, said by Cr Jackie Watts.
